Business Trips

I’m about to take a business trip on Monday and was questioned by a colleague on what to pack. This got me thinking, I should do a post on this. So, what should you pack when you’re traveling for business?
Personally, I am very organized person and also a minimalist, so you may disagree with some of my choices, if you disagree make a comment and let me hear about it!
Rule 1: Pack everything with a purpose! If you don’t know why you are bringing an item, it’s nothing more than added weight to your luggage.
Rule 2: Take into account how long you are traveling for; there is no reason to have five changes of clothing for a two day trip.
Rule 3: Don’t forget your power cords; many times you will bring your phone and nothing to charge it with. If you have a BlackBerry, then you can always charge it through the USB output on your laptop, but if not buy a cheap charger on eBay just for your carry-on luggage.
Rule 4: Similar to the solution to Rule 3; have duplicates of necessities just for travel, such as hygiene products. Keep these in your luggage at all times and if you are traveling often. That way you don’t forget important items. It’s also a form of a check list when you’re packing and notice something needs to be replaced.
Rule 5: This is again is similar to the above rule, but have duplicates of important files you are traveling with back at the office as well as digital files on an external hard drive. It is also worth investing in an online storage website that you have some form of an automated process of backing up your files. Anything you create on the road is at jeopardy.
In summary, keep your travel items to a minimum, have duplicates of your files and as well personal items such as hygiene products.

That’s some very good suggestions Darcy. I like the way you think!
Thanks for the comments. The last thing you need when traveling is to be worrying about anything but the objective of the trip!
