For those who know me well, they know that my catch phrase, “it is what it is.” I’m expecting some very interesting comments from my close person friends on this post (here or in person).
Why do I say this so often? It’s really a mechanism I use to deviate from stress.
I come from my family where worrying about things is common. Worrying about what will happen if things work out a certain way.
As well, during my time as president of the SIFE St. Lawrence College, I’ve witnessed people trying to control situations they could not.
When I say “it is what it is,” it means that you can not change or control the situation – so let it be. Accept the thing as they are and move on. Sometimes I also say it when you may be able to could control the situation, but the amount of energy it would take would not be worth the outcome.
Imagine trying to convince a caring mother to not worry about her children, if you teach her how not to worry at all, is it worth it? More than likely you will fail, but if you succeed will you have achieved anything worth while? I would tell the person attempting …
“It is what it is.”
Feel free to adopt this saying, it’s very calming and empowering. It becomes an immediate response that helps you to let go of or even avoid stress all together.

It is what it is
I take some credit for pointing out how much you say this
I have been waiting for this comment. I’ll give you a little credit for pointing it out, but you have to give me credit for having such an in depth meaning.
