The Unknown Factor

When you’re taking that next big step there is always that unnerving feeling you have from the “unknown factor.”  You’re not sure how things are going to go workout because you’re outside your comfort zone.  As much as this is unnerving, it’s a good thing.  It means that there is a challenge awaiting you.  Something new to for you to conquer and overcome.

Let’s turn this unnerving feeling into self-power by quoting the great Barney Stinson, “Challenge Accepted!”  Say it loud and proud!

Now doesn’t that feel better?  If you didn’t say it out loud, go back and do so now!  Now that you’re on track, let’s understand why that feels so good.

When you were walking into the unknown like a little lamb to the slaughter it’s scary.  Even though your willing and open, you’re in a defensive mode waiting for something big to cross your path telling you to quit.

When you accept the challenge, you’re proactively going on the offence.  In professional sports, the offensive team’s goal is to push hard against the opposition to control the play and find a weakness they can turn into an advantage.   When you accept the challenge you’re shifting your mind from defence to offence and looking for those advantages.

So the next time you face an unknown factor, greet it with a smile, rise up out of your chair, fist pump the sky and let it know that the challenge has been accepted.
