How Does Progress Start?

Yesterday I was asked by someone close to me about how you know when progress has started.  The simple thing is that progress starts with action.  Thinking about it doesn’t make it anything.  It’s like the guy who says “I thought of the iPod first,” except Apple is the one who made progress happen.

It’s important to make a smart decision.  I’m not saying you shouldn’t take your time in making a decision, but you can take too long.  If you decide to take a cruise after the ship has sailed, your lack of decision is a bad one in itself.

Make a prompt decision with the information you had.  Then take a step or a leap of faith.  This is where progress happens.  Either decision you make you’re going to end up somewhere, a step forward or backwards you will be able to see what you need to do next.

If you make a bad decision, then you learn from it and adjust and progress forward.  If you never make a decision, you learn nothing new and end up in the same place.

So where does progress start?  It starts with the first step. No one every won a race at the starting line.
